A message from the Beneficiary
Despite the heat of Saturday, Sunday morning, 11th June, was a lot more comfortable, especially for the runners and walkers. There were 65 runners and 14 walkers that had registered for the event. Members and Parents of the 12th Chichester Scout Group took up the Marshall Points around the course in readiness for the 10oclock start from the Fishbourne Centre. The Woolpack was the finish point where more members from the Scout Group had set up a refreshment stall offering bacon butties, hot and cold drinks (free water) and ice lollies and were doing a steady trade - Who doesn’t enjoy a bacon roll?. Also at the finish line was the Chichester District Scout Recruitment Trailer and members from the Recruitment team who are always looking for more volunteers to help run the many Scout Groups in the District.
It wasn’t long (29 mins approx.) before the first runner Mike Houston appeared along the road and through the finish line to applause. Thereafter, there was a steady stream of runners and plenty of support as people crossed the finish line. Finally, the walkers came in across the finish line, the last appearing about 12:30. By this time the sun had shown its face and the day was really hotting up, so it was good to be finished in time before the hottest part of the day.
Prior to the event, we had taken £880 in entry fees and on the day, we took another £276 in cash entries fees and refreshments, making a total amount raised £1156.81. This will be put towards the Scout HQ Re-development fund to give the future young members of Chichester Scouts a safe and functional building for their activities.
Thank you to all the members of the Scout Group for all the Marshalls around the course, but more importantly, thank you to Dave and Becca of the Fishbourne Flat Five Committee for asking us to be the beneficiary of this year’s event.
